OUR STORY

Our History

CSF Cattle Company was founded in 1999 by my Father and I, but our roots run deeper. Dad was raised on a farm in Amherst County, Va. I was 9 years old when Dad bought his first farm in Rockbridge County, Va. I have had a love of cattle ever since. Dad grew the herd to over 175 commercial cows and ran stocker calves. In 1999 our farm in Buena Vista was sold and Dad bought a farm in Raphine. I stayed in Buena Vista and Farmed some of the leased land we had. I purchased 40 black commercial cows. I also purchased 2 Polled Hereford bulls to turn out with those cows. The following year I sold 36 redneck and 3 baldie calves. Red calves in Virginia take a big price cut. This is where the Purebred Idea started. To raise angus cattle that can be crossbred and know it is ½ black angus.  Dad and I formed a partnership and sold most of our commercial cows and reinvested in Registered Angus Cows. Over a 3 year period we bought around 50 cows from well respected breeders known for their maternal herds. We now run around 200 registered angus cows. We still run a herd of Commercial Cows. We have used artificial insemination since we started. Trying to get the latest and best genetics. All cows get one round of AI. Then we turn out herd sires. Since 2009 we have only purchased 3 herd sires from other breeders. We use bulls that we raise here on the farm. We raise purebred cattle in a practical environment while keeping our commercial counterparts in mind.

Our Mission

To provide herd sires and replacement females to the commercial sector.

Our Program

Our bulls are maternal influenced for the breeders who keep their replacement females.

We sell around 35 bulls a year between our production sale and private treaty.

We sell approximately 70 steers a year at weaning that are mates to the bulls. They are vital to our existence.

1 year breeding guarantee on our bulls. We know bulls will be bulls and injuries can occur. We guarantee our bulls to perform the job you bought him to do. If he gets injured, we will get you a replacement bull to get the cows settled.

We don’t sell our bulls under 18 months of age. Most are 20 months old.

We sell around 30 commercial cows a year with most of them being 1st calf heifers with calf at side.
